Rational:

A way finding system to connect independent shops in Leeds with Leeds Print Festival. Throughout this project I plan to reference current wayfinding systems that feature supergraphics such as the Hult Business School renovation for Offset London. I will also reference print culture and the colour system CMYK. To further develop my research I plan to explore the individual shops themselves by  taking inspiration from their logos, history and vision in order to create my designs. My system will interact with Leeds print festival and those who will be attending by linking independent shops with the festival clearly by using fixed posts which will host the system, using sticker featuring pictogram for each store and identify direction shops in. To further engage my audience the sticker will also act as a rating system as they will cross over in a similar way to the CMKY colour system with the shop featured on the top being the highest rated for that day based on customer experience. The stickers will be given out at each stop featured within the system as well as throughout the print festival. This way finding system allows for exposure for independent shops within Leeds in an audience/customer lead system which allows customers to rate a shop on their personal experience by going to a fixed point and placing a sticker on top of others. This allows for the creation of both an objective and subjective system as it informs the audience of a specific direction but allows them to review their experience through the placement of the stickers allowing  the viewer to arrive at a view of his own’ - Jan Van Toorn.
