In order to start generating ideas I started reading summaries of each chapter within Wonder, writing any detail I found interesting (see figure 1). I decided not to read the whole book as this is meant to be a short brief and reading all three books within the competition in order to create the cover would take too much time. I feel the summaries I read gave me a good understanding of the book, giving me the idea to focus of a few key elements within rather than Auggie's disability as although this is a key element within the book, I feel the main message of the book is to look past peoples appearances, be kind and be comfortable with who you are. This is demonstrated towards the end of the book when Auggie becomes more comfortable with who he is and the other children start to see who he really is, looking past his disability. I plan to showcase this message within a few of my most successful ideas in order to see which best represents the book:
- Henry Ward Beecher medal of hour
- Auggie awarded for courage and kindness
- The idea of the war between Jack and Julian because Jack wanted to be Auggies friend
- Mr Browne
- when given the choice between being right or being kind, chose kind'
- The symbolism of the Universe
- school is like the universe
- emphasis the bigger picture - look past peoples appearance
