Layout Research - Golden Ratio
The Golden ration of 1:1.61 can be explained by dividing a line into two parts, when the longer section (a) is divided by b which is equal to the sum of a and b is then divided by a its equal to 1.618. This pattern is a reacquiring event within nature and is said to be contained within beautiful thing leading to the some peoples belief that only objects containing the golden ratio can be beautiful. Consequently when the golden ration is applied to design it creates natural and to the unconscious mind aesthetically pleasing designs due to the way the page is divided by the ration (fig 1). However despite this many designers belief the golden ratio is a myth and doesn't create beautiful designs due to the fact that the golden ratio is an irrational number meaning its statically impossible for things within nature to fall exactly within the parameters of the golden ratio. Consequently I could loosely apply the characteristics of the golden ration to my designs in particular the hand outs for the exhibition by placing the fact in the top third of the handout, which will also create space for the drawing therefor avoiding any distortion that may occur.
