Cecilia Fox: 90 degree Development

In order to develop the identity further, a surface pattern has been created based on natural patterns that develop in stoneware when fired. This allows for an additional element to be added to the branding as using the wordmark logo alone limited the overall identity as there wasn't much room for development or adaptation. Multiple different applications were explored using the basis of a business card to see how best to incorporate the pattern. Overall the pattern and type work well together however also work when separated allowing the pattern to be used in different ways throughout the identity. Furthermore the pattern works best with the dots being darker as the lighter dots get lost within the beige background.

Based on this development packaging designs have been explored to visualise different implementation options for the brand identity. Initially, I've looked at different ways to incorporate the 90-degree rule within the lid of the box, mainly looking at either printing a similar design as those looked at for business cards or using tape to close the box so the information would be set on a 90-degree angle (see figure 6-7) allowing the whole pattern to be used across the box. In a more simpler approach, the pattern would be featured on the sides of the box with the lid only featuring the brand name (see figures 7-8). Throughout this process different colour experiments have been completed to see if more pastel colours would enhance the designer further (see figures 9-10), however the most successful responses are those featuring more neutral earthy colours (see figure 10).
