Initial research has been conducted in order to determine how to construct a pinball machine, specifically what mechanisms can be built and how to construct the box itself. This led to multiple tutorials online of simple machines that use cardboard, which could be developed using wood (see figure 1). Different construction methods have been taken from earlier research videos in order to help develop the most appropriate way of constructing the moving elements of the machine, such as the plunger and flippers (see figure 1). The most helpful resource used has been the template discovered which details different dimensions for a traditional pinball machine (see figure 2). These resources have been combined to help plan different elements of the machine to present to woodwork technicians to see how best to build the pinball machine. This information has also allowed for some initial sketches exploring what could be included in the design of the machine, and the placement of different mechanisms within the machine (see figure 3).
