Test Your Fate: Idea Feedback/Development

Peer feedback was gain on initial ideas in order to help refine the concept of the machine and narrow down the idea so a more focused outcome could be produced. Upon presenting my initial ideas exploring the idea of routes/maps as well as tarot cards the group felt a more simple approach would be best. They felt the idea of exploring fate would make the outcome too complicate as the concept is more focused on the idea of playing the game and seeing where you end up rather than the physical design itself.

Therefore it was suggested to keep the design simple and colourful and focus on how the game will operate and what the focus of the holes will be rather than an overall theme. When discussing how the game would work initially my focus was having each hole as a career destination however it was suggested that the idea of failing and getting back up could be explored more in the implementation of the game to show it's ok to fail. This lead to the idea to have one main jackpot/goal that works as an indented hole that the ball would get stuck in. This would represent the dream job that players would aim for with the other holes below representing issued faced by those in the design world, such as a style change, or emerging tech. Therefore each time the player hits/falls into a problem the ball runs down so they can play again, representing the process of failing and progressing so the game would only be over once the player has hit the jackpot. The implementation of this would be fairly easy as a hole could be cut into the acrylic around the jackpot allowing a new player to play once it has been achieved.

Based on this feedback I plan to experiment more with colour, pattern and bold type to keep the design of the machine simple and engaging allowing the concept of the machine to be the main focus rather than overshadowing the concept by adding an additional concept to the design.
