The Vignelli Canon outlines Massio Vignelli views on graphic design and how he approaches a project/ designs in particular the use of typography within graphic design as he believes there are only five usable typefaces Garamond, Bodoni, Century Expanded, Helvetica, Optima, Futura, Univers, Caslon, Baskerville. Vignelli Canon also outlines how he approaches his work based on research into the company, product, market in order to create more appropriate designs so they are timeless as Vignelli believes design should be simple and not obvious.
Although I like some of Vignellis work due t its simplistic minimal style, I don't necessarly believe that you should only use five fonts. However I do agree that design should be simple and that you should try to develop the obvious idea as usually the most effective designs are those which are subtle .
