Design for Screen: Wire Framing

Wire Frames:
Visual representation of a user interface void of any design or branding influence which allows the designer to define hierarchy and placement of images, informed by user experience.  

In order to develop wireframes based on my initial ideas I've gain inspiration from other websites i've researched, taking inspiration from the basic structures and applying it to my experiments (see figures 1-6). Having 136 on the homepage provides a constant that the animations can be focused on creating a unique experience for each viewer as the animations will change as the user views the page or a new one will appear each time you view the site. The wireframes featured are based on having an infinite scroll so that you can scroll down and the different pages will appear as experiments using a menu felt inappropriate due to the limited number of pages within the site. Additionally the information section allows for a brief explanation of the course to be given from the perspective of the students allowing perspective students to gain an insight to the course. When developing the student page featuring adjectives the use of unstructured adjective felt more appropriate as it makes the viewer look more to find the adjective that fits them rather than quickly scanning a list, giving more students the chance to be discovered, this decision we supported when gaining feedback. Once an adjective has been chosen it will link to the students page of which images of there work will appear as well as a brief rational and small self portrait. The use of overlapping the text over the self portrait creates a more interesting design when compared with other experimentations featuring the text on the side in a more traditional format. In relation to the blog, it will be presented in the form of a series of pictures which viewers can click on and it will link to the specific article as this will allow the viewer to chose the articles which interest them.







Feedback, figures 7-8:
Upon receiving feedback on the wire frames below it was found that I need to refine and concentrate the idea more on either professionals or perspective students. Consequently I've decided to focus solely on providing an even platform for third year students to showcase their work to professionals within leeds and around the world. As a result of this I plan to contact different studios to identify what they look for in a graduate, which will aid the design of the site. It was also suggested that instead of each student describing themselves in a single adjective that tutors could assign the adjectives to avoid lying. However this takes away from the objective of the site which is to not only showcase the students work but also speak to there personalities to give studios an insight into how they would fit in within there studios. Furthermore another suggestion was to have a few adjectives and have students fit within those instead of lots of  different adjectives with the order the students appear in being rated by the tutors so the best student would appear. However this also takes away the individuality of the website and fails to provide an even platform as an element of favouritism would influence the sight. In order to solve the potential issue of having lots of different adjective I plan to develop a small section below the adjective featuring specialised sections such as web, print, editorial which viewers can click on and adjectives will be highlighted to improve user experience. It was also suggested that a gallery section could be added for the work at the end of year show so that those who attend could fine work by students they hadn't got the name of. In relation to the end of year show aspect it was suggested that the work on the sight could change once a year to match the end of year show and stay up for the net year, however this fails to help third years whilst there at university as by the time of the end of year show they would of already left and are supposed to have fully engaged with the industry.
