Upon reflection of more typographic ideas I've decided to explore the use of illustration within the pinball machine to create a more traditional and engaging design. Therefore I started to explore imagery associated with graduation, asking fellow students what they thought of when it came to graduation (add photo of notes). The main object people thought of was the graduation hats, therefore I looked at how to create a character out of a traditional hat to become the focus of the game (see figure 2). Initially the hat character was the main focus however when implementing this into the machine the design wasn't engaging as the same image was just repeated (see figure 3). Therefore additional characters were made out of the scroll/degree and a ladder to represent the career ladder each graduate is trying to climb (see figures 4-5). Due to having more characters the design on the machine become more interesting as each character was doing its own thing within the machine. However upon reflection this character interaction could be developed further. Experiments with how the game could be presented on the backglass have also been conducted to showcase each character at a larger size (see figure 6). In relation to colour, initially the idea of a school graph book was explored however this created an unnecessary element to the game, complicating the design which needs to be simple but engaging (see figures 7-8). Therefore more flat colours where explore with blue being chosen due to its slight corporate association (see figures 9-10). Further development is needed in relation to colour and character implementation.
