Micro Music Genre: Fan Flags

After researching the production of enamel pins I discovered it would be very expensive to produce as it's not possible to get a few made therefore I would have to order 50-100 which would cost around £200 which isn't possible. This lead to a discussion with fellow students to identify other fan memorabilia that would be possible to create, leading to the idea to look at fan flags in more detail. Fan flags provide an overview of a club and are a form of expression for fans who don't hide their feelings, bad or good (see figure 1-2). Furthermore many flags often capture the wit and humour of fans which are further shown within many football chants allowing for an interesting visual link to be created between the two. In addition fans also use flags as an opportunity to antagonise opposing supporters (see figure 3-5) often featuring offensive headlines with the aim of getting the biggest reaction. However despite the common association that fan flags are used to offend some can be created in order to address issues within football such as the flag featured in figure 6 which aims to stand up against racism in football. I plan to try to capture the wit and humour found within most fan flags in order to create an accurate representation on fan culture.
