Singapore Exchange: United Nations Collaboration
I was selected to take part in a workshop with exchange students from Nanyang Polytechnic University, Singapore in which chose a goal from the United Nations Global Goals. From this point we then took part in a creative workshop aimed at the idea generation process which allowed us to come up with multiple ideas centred around life under water, as this was the goal we chosen to work on. During this workshop it was the small tasks which lasted all together just over an hour, allowing for lot of different and developed ideas to be created as splitting the time section into 3 minute intervals allows for quick thinking to be implemented. In addition the task of going to another persons ideas and developing them further allowed for new insights, creating ideas personally I wouldn't have thought of. Once we had developed our ideas more individually we then presented them to the group and rated them based on how easy they where to implement and which would have the greatest impact. This activity was something I really enjoyed as it gave the group the opportunity to push and develop ideas further as we where considering how easy it would be to implement and which would provide the greatest impact, making us realise that ideas we thought where quite stronger where not as strong as others due to there lack of impact or ease of implementation.
After completing the tasks within the workshop we had our resolved idea which we presented in the form of a tweet (280 characters) and an emoji sentence. Our idea: a filter and animation to highlight human impact on marine life for Instagram and Snapchat. Emoji sentence: 👨👩👧👦 🏝 📸 💀 🐠 (see figure 1). After discussing our idea further as a group we created an action plan for our next session in which we decided to all come up with story board ideas for the animations along with some colour schemes. This will allow us to have a good base to start developing the animations and design of the filters within our next meeting. Overall I found this experience very interesting as the workshop itself was very helpful but it was also interesting to collaborate with overseas students and compare how they work and their skills to ours.
