Short Brief: 60 Sec Documentary Research

In order to respond to creating a 60 sec documentary on a subject, I decided to look through the google doodles too see if any invention or person featured would be interesting research, leading to Charles-Michel de L'Epee.  Charles-Michel de L'Epee is known as the 'farther of the deaf' due to his work establishing rights for deaf people in 1700s in France. L'Epee is known for creating a system to teach deaf people sign language as he notice deaf people already had a langue they used to communicate after a chance encounter with two deaf sisters in the slums of Paris. L'Eppe dedicated his life to the education of deaf people opening the first free public school for the deaf in the1760s. He helped advocate and develop a form of 'signed french' based on signs used already by deaf people as well as additional signs he created to represent different verbs and propositions. This development gave deaf people the ability to legally defend themselves in court for the first time. Furthermore he was passionate about the education of deaf people not only in France but world wide, developing teacher-training programs he would teach to foreigners on how to teach without sound. These methods spread world wide allowing the education of deaf children to be developed world wide.
