Overall I'm pleased with the final outcome for this brief as I feel the final sleeve (see figure 1) successfully represents the song and artist without the use of obvious imagery or lyrics from within the song. The simple abstract pattern showcases how Buckley performed as he would get lost in the music with the focus being solely on him and his guitar. The use of the chords visualised by the position on the fret draws on the focus being on his guitar and him as the main elements of the song our Buckley's voice and guitar. Furthermore I feel this outcome is more successful than other I experimented with due to its simplicity as the pattern speaks for itself whereas other experiments featuring type (see figure 2) reduced the focus on the pattern which took away from the concept. In addition experiments with cutting out the circles within the design (see figure 2-3) created an unprofessional and messy appearance to the sleeve due to the difficulties I faced when trying to cut out the circles. I could of further experimented with a laser cutter to remove these circles however I don't have the experience to accuratly line up the circles with the cutter. Furthermore I felt the final design (see figure 1) was more successful with further experiments with removing the circles being unnecessary as they didn't enhance the concept as much as I'd hoped. Therefore I'm pleased with the final outcome, as the sleeve has been finished to a high quality due to the use if digital printing facilities within university and the binding machine which has allowed for smooth crips folds to made when putting the sleeve together. When gathering feedback on my design it was suggested I could further develop this brief by creating a sticker for the vinyl itself which would be informed by the design on the cover of the sleeve. However I feel this is unnecessary as the brief is simply to create a 7 inch x 7 inch print, therefore the creation of a vinyl sticker wouldn't enhance my entry into this competition, with the sleeve being physically produced in order to help choose a final design.
