Street Feast Collaboration: Production/ Improvements

During the production process Lizzie has found it difficult to print the design seen in figures 1-3 due to the small lines within the illustrations. This is an issue we both anticipated as the design didn't appear to have exposed as well as others after Lizzie had exposed each design. Consequently I have increased (see figure 4) the stroke weight of the line within the illustrations so the emulsion has a larger area to stick too. Furthermore I've also increase the size of the designs so they will expose more easily (see figure 4) however upon discussion we felt the increase in stroke width seen in figure 4 should be enough to achieve a clear print. In addition we experimented with the use of cardboard (see figure 5) however due to the uneven texture it was difficult to achieve a clear print. Furthermore the use of tissue paper and newsprint (see figures 6-7) where also unsuccessful at first as the ink was too thick making it difficult to get an even finish. This resulted in the paper crinkling as it got too wet as more ink than desired was being transferred. However after talking to the print technicians we discovered that the batch of binder we had been using was unusually gloopy meaning the ink was thicker than usual, resulting in some issues when printing. This is a simple issue to solve as we just needed to add a tablespoon of water to the binder in order think out the ink.
