Betting is very commonly associated with football and fan culture, with betting adverts being shown within breaks for broadcasted games often with game specific odds. However more recently campaigners have called on the FA and Premier League to do something about the widespread betting culture amongst fans due to the concern that its promoting an unhealthy habit to children who watch the game. This is further shown through the suggestion for Premier League clubs to no longer sign shirt sponsorship deals with betting companies to limit the exposure to betting culture for children. However according to the Guardian, currently 'nine of the 20 Premier League football clubs – including Newcastle, West Ham and Everton – have shirt sponsorship deals with gambling companies, worth a combined £47.3m this season alone'. Despite this the FA are trying to tackle the issue as in 2017 they announced they would be ending its sponsorship deals with betting companies and terminating it contract with Ladbrokes, worth about £4m a year.
In relation to the use of a scratch card as a potential response it could be used to raise awareness of gambling among fans, giving them the feeling of placing a bet or using a scratch card without the harmful aspect of gambling. Fans wouldn't loose any money as the scratch cards would be given away for free with different items within the stadium such as the program or on pie tins.
