The final submission for penguin (see figure 1) has been selected based on peer-to-peer feedback due to the strong concept which can be easily identified by the target audience who may have knowledge about the book but also those who don't as the concept is revealed as you read the book. The use of Futura gives the cover a scientific feel without resembling a textbook due to the tall x-height and pointed terminals. The final cover successfully fulfils the brief as it explored the focus on breaking boundaries within the book as the story at the beginning of the book featuring the statement that the world is flat and held up on the back of a giant turtle which Hawking's uses to question why scientists think there right and question the major scientific discoveries over time within the book. Furthermore the modern aesthetic of the cover attracts a younger audience without discouraging an older one due to the simplicity of the design and typography used. In addition the playful nature of using a turtle on the cover further entices younger readers as they question their potential preconceptions of what a book by Stephen Hawking should look/be like. If this cover was to be chosen and physically produced the constellation of larger stars could be spot varnished to create a shiny appearance when held up to light.
