Beer Identities: Speed Dating Task

Speed Dating:
Initial Issues:
- What to feature in the illustrations
- How to bind the book
- Incorporating the paper used for beer labels or a beer matt at some point

Idea in a sentence:
Illustrative book showcasing the different personalities of beer drinkers.

Helpful References:
- How to be a Hipster

Suggested Materials:
- Beer mats
- Beer label material

Suggested uses of typography and layout:
- Book could follow the stages of drinking a pint
- Layout could become more blurred/messy as the book goes along to show the stages of drinking
- Layout on the page could reflect how drunk that personality is likely to be
- Use a pint glass to show the position in the book, goes down as you go through

Additional Suggestions:
- Illustrate one aspect of the personality rather than the whole face or body
- Using beer matts for the cover weather found or my own design
- Concertina book
- Emboss into the cover or book in a similar way to beer bottles
- Blur text

Conclusion:

This exercise proved to be very helpful with overcoming some initial issues I was having when attempting to create the illustrations to showcase the different personalities. Consequently I’ve decided to explore using beer matts fro the cover of the book and using a concertina technique to bind the book. This will allow the book to be used by readers in a bar or pub so they can spot the personalities around them. The use of beer matts will allow the book to blend into its environment. Additionally illustrating a single aspect of the personality allows for greater interpretation by the reader. I also plan to explore the use of breaking the grid and also blearing the text as either the book goes on or in relation to the separate personalities.
