Beer Identity: Crit Feedback

Presented Ideas:
Beer personalities publication from the view point of the bar staff. Each personality will be represented by a story or phrase with the layout and typeface changing to match the personality. Additionally the book would become more difficult to read as the book progressed working from the idea that only the first and last letter of a word need to be correct for it to be read. Furthermore I presented 3 product ideas to gain opinions from:
  • concertina book with beer mats as the front and back cover
  • book split into stages so new section is given out with each new drink, pair with most popular craft beer
  • publication would wrap around a beer bottle so would be given out with a specific beer

Feedback:
  • publication has become more about the people than the beer
  • test ideas to see how they work in order to identify which is best
  • use of beer mats is intersting however no real need to be a concertina
  • the handling of the book could become more complex/harder to use as the book goes through
  • focus more on stages of the night
  • you are the personalities as you go through the book
  • simplify idea further as every element seems to change as you go through, create a constant
  • give each personality a name? e.g; George, Mark etc.

Reflection:
Upon receiving the feedback above I've decided to simplify my idea more so that the layout of the page reflects the personality but the typeface stays the same throughout the book. This will allow each personality to be showcased based on how its seen on the page rather than identifying a typeface for each, which became difficult as some personalities shared suitable typefaces. Furthermore I plan to experiment with making the book more difficult to read as the book progresses by incorporating unbound pages and interactive aspects meaning you have to move the book to read it.
