Beer Identity: Production Considerations

Printing/Stock:
After discussing my initial idea of creating a concertina book in the shape of a circle which will attach to two beer matts with James in the digital print room, I've discovered a number of ways to print. I discovered that it would be fairly easy to print however I would have to consider the fold of the concertina when designing to make a consideration for the folds so the pages would stay together and not rip.  Consequently James introduce Tyvek (see figure 1) to me which is a non-tear paper in order to avoid the book ripping in the folds, the only issue to this was the slight texturise nature to the back of the paper. Interestingly due to the use of plastic within the paper it has a similar feel to beer bottle labels. Folding experimentations will allow me to identify if the textured back will be an issue. Additionally I would be limited to A3 if the book needed to be printed double sided, one way around this would be to screen print one side however that may create an unwanted quality contrast throughout the book. This would limit full bleed capacity

Binding:
The binding options I've discovered that would be suitable for the publication is a concertina fold onto hardback, saddle-stitch and kettle stitch binding, as these would allow for the incorporation of beer matts for the front and back cover. Kettle stitch and perfect binding would be useful is I decide to treat each piece of paper using beer/chemical in beer based on the hours the personality would be in the pub for, as it would allow each individual piece to be bound without have one spread per page.
