Poster Evaluation

For studio brief 2 an A1 poster showcasing an exhibition called Silversmithing in Everyday Life for the V&A has been produced (see figure 1), using paper sculpture to represent patterns and shapes in the artwork featured within the exhibition. The colours used within this poster have been kept neutral in order to represent the theme behind the exhibition of making an idea into an object. This is further reinforced through the use of paper sculpture within the poster as the use of sculptor represents the small maquette produced within the silversmithing process before final designs creating a stronger link to the exhibition itself. In addition the use of neutral colours allows for the reference to the organic materials used within silversmithing without incorporating the obvious use silver or metal. The layout of this poster has been kept simple in order to allow the sculpture to be the main focus in order to subtly address the key themes behind the exhibition. Furthermore the simple use of typography in the form of helvetica further represents the concept of keeping the sculpture the main focus of the poster. Overall this poster successfully represents the exhibiting however could be developed further using colour in order to create a more eye caching poster as although the use of neutral colours is relevant it fails to stand out within an urban environment if it was to be used in a promotional form.
