Speaking from Experience: Initial Illustrations, Ben

In order to develop our initial idea based on creating a translation book surrounding Ben our tutor I've created some initial basic illustrations (see figure 1) experimenting with style, not focused on creating an accurate representation. This allowed for certain experimentations such as whether to use lines or circles within the beard seen in figure 1. Lines where chosen as they created a more accurate representation of facial hair with the use of circles looking out of place/unrealistic. In order to further develop these I've created an illustration based on a photo of Ben which will be featured within the translation book (see figure 2). In order to develop these illustrations further, additional features such as shoulders need to be added and potentially hair in order to create a more accurate representation. The simple nature of these illustrations allows them to work successfully by highlighting key features such as face shape, nose and ears to create an accurate but simple representation. The addition of features such as shoulders in figure 3 allow for a more life like and realistic drawing.
