In order to demonstrate a celebratory event within a public space in Leeds an A3 print has been created celebrating the Suffragette Riot in 1908 and the work of the Suffragettes within Leeds. This poster address those involved in the riot and those who had a significant impact on Leeds and the Suffragette movement as a whole. This lead to research into specific Suffragettes such as Leonora Cohen who is featured within the poster due to her work within Leeds for the Suffragettes and her involvement in the riot, as she caused the only damage, breaking a pain of glass. Furthermore the suffragette movement is subtly addressed within the print by focusing on what women still have to achieve for equality in relation to Leeds and the world as a whole, such as equal pay and education. Therefor highlighting the issues women face today in relation to those of the past. In addition the Suffragette movement has further been addressed through the use of colour, using purple, green and white of the Suffragette flag within my design in order to strengthen the ties between issues faced by the Suffragettes and those faced by women today.
