Speaking From Experience: Simon Harrison Illustrations
In order to further develop illustrations as part of studio brief 4 I've looked at Simon Harrison (see figure 4) and his key attributes such as his glasses and his love of checkered shirts. I found this illustration one of the simpler to do as I had a clear images and idea to work making ti easier to simplify the drawing down to its key attributes in order to make it recognisable. The main difficulty faced throughout this illustration was creating the correct face shape and beard, as this created the framework for the most identifiable features (see figure 1). The development of adding shoulders was also difficult as the framing of the shoulders need to match the face in order for the illustration to look in proportion. Furthermore the introduction of the checked shirts allowed the whole illustration to come together with a few issues when choosing the size of check so that it would support the drawing without become the main focus which was the case when a smaller check was used as seen in figure 2 with a larger check becoming lost within the illustration (see figure 3). However the use of the medium check supports the drawing without overpowering it as a whole, allowing for an accurate and simple illustration to be produced (see figure 4).
