The Good Lad Initiative is a charity working within schools, university and the workplace to educate an understand the issues surrounding what it means to 'be a man'. Their aim is to encourage equal gender relationships and by transforming behaviors and attitudes whilst providing a safe space when young men can discuss what it means to be a man and their attitudes towards masculinity. The initiative run workshops in which they specialise in 'helping men and boys contribute to improving gender relations'. They have a positive focus as they believe men can help create change instead of being the center of the problem as the role of men within equality has become more distorted with the focus on toxic masculinity. The charity believes 'men (and everyone) can make a contribution to positive changes in their communities and broader society'.
Although this charity is working towards minimising negative male stereotypes the focus is more on the link between these stereotypes and equality, rather than the effect these stereotypes have on young men which is the area of masculinity I'm looking at within this project.
