Adonis Specimen: The Man Box

The man box is considered to be a set of rigid of expectations that define what a 'real man' is, which is usually a man that is strong, doesn't show emotion other than anger or excitement, is the breadwinner etc. This real man as defined by the 'men box' what is normal and acceptable within society for male masculinity. The man box is sustained by both men and women who both engage with and practice this version of masculinity within society.

Many have come to ball the man box the dominant frame for performing masculinity which is informed by the traditional hegemonic definition of masculinity. Traditional hegemonic definition of Masculinity explains the external expectations of men placed on them by society. Traditional represents what is rooted in long-held cultural ways of defining men, 'hegemonic' is the term that places men about other gender and other men, defining what puts some men above others in relation to class, racism and homophobia. The definition of masculinity is reinforced in many ways but mainly through misogyny and homophobia.
