In order to start developing the type specimen itself I've developed some initial ideas by looking back at the concept behind the type treatment to see how this can be implemented within a publication. Therefore I brainstormed words association with the concept, choosing to focus on perception and hidden, This lead to a few ideas (see figure 1) the most interesting being to split the publication in two based on the different perceptions associated with the adonis complex. Another idea was to incorporate folds or inserts within the publication that the reader would interact with to reveal another element such as the filled type. In addition based on the idea of perception and perspectives the use of having information on its side or in different positions so the reader would have to turn the book to gain a new perspective was also brainstormed. In relation to different materials that could be used, reflective paper could be used within the cover with the type being embossed/debossed or black card could be used alongside spot varnishing so the filled type could be seen more clearly in different lights. Therefore different layout and material experiments will be conducted to help identify which concept should be developed further and what materials should be used.
