Adonis Complex: The Good Men Project

The good men project is an online magazine and forum that set out to start an international conversation about what it means to be a good man in the 21st century. The project was found by Tom Matlack in 2009 who set out a collection of stories about the meaningful moments in men's lives and he discovered the connections between these stories was that the men involved thought they knew how to be a good man but realised they didn't. The platform provided a safe where men could idscuss the complexities of gender and seek support in an environment that supported feminism. This was the only platform having a discussion about gender and masculinity in this way as the magazine and forum considered modern masculinity outside of misogyny.

The magazine has four main elements to their missions:

  • Write about it:
    • Accept online submission, encouraging readers to share and contribute to the community
  • Talk about it:
    • Weekly calls about specific topics
    • Encourage real-life conversations about issues surrounding gender and masculinity
  • Join the community:
    • Premium membership for like-minded people
  • Learn new skills:
    • Provide classes in writing, platform building, editing, creating social change and leadership.
