This article was helpful as it gave a more clinical definition of muscle dysmorphia and highlighted the fact of lack of awareness and under-reporting due to the idea the person affected is conforming to an ideal, making it more difficult to spot/recognise. This is important as traditionally some affected by body dysmorphia (mainly women) will get smaller/thinner due to thinking they are not slim enough however the opposite is true for muscle dysmorphia making it difficult to spot in less extreme cases.
Quotes:
'50% and 100% of men with muscle dysmorphia report steroid abuse'.
'most common age of onset of muscle dysmorphia is reported to be 19'.
